Key Points for Recruitment

  • Polls are showing that 2018 will be a wave election for Democrats and districts that would have been considered unwinnable are now in play.
  • The more races Democrats compete in, the better all candidates chances because Republican resources will be spread more thinly for everyone.
  • 2016 primary results showed that Bernie Sanders’ progressive platform and economic message resonated strongly in rural Missouri, where most of the unchallenged districts are.
  • It takes an average of asking someone 9 times to run for office to convince them to run.
  • Candidate filing starts at the Sec. of State’s office in Jeff. City Feb. 27 and ends March 27. It costs $50 to register and the order of names on the ballot is determined by filing order(those that file on the 1st day before 5pm are drawn at random for order)
  • The MDP and MDPPC are happy to answer questions and provide whatever additional resources we can. The free e-book, “Politics the Wellstone Way” is a great resource for progressive grassroots campaign organization, messaging, fundraising, and planning.
